How To Deal With The Holidays And Not Get Sick, Fat Or Guilty?

Do you know how to deal with the holidays?

Christmas is knocking on our doors, and we are all ready to meet our families and cook and eat lots of fatty, sweet and yummy dishes. For me, Christmas also means to sleep more than usual and relax at my parents country house, doing almost nothing. I am sure, you are also about to prepare yourself for the best night of the year, the New Years Eve!

Most of the people, during the night between the years, forget about everything and indulge in sweets and alcohol, because this is their way of celebrating and letting everything go and just “be in the present“. The next day, the first day of the year, they might wake up pretty dizzy, feeling pretty bad for those extra pounds and we start blaming themselves for their lack of judgement and for enjoying every bit of the holiday season.

Does this ring a bell for you?

Holidays are meant to be fun, to be fully enjoyed and I want to tell you just how to do that. This holiday season you will forget about the guilt, you will enjoy everything at its best and you’ll thank me afterward in a comment below about how you remained skinny and happy. Deal?

  • 1. Buy Probiotics

Since we will be eating more food than usual, combining it in a way we are not used to, plus add the sugar, gluten, and the not-so-good fat, we need good bacteria to help us digest everything we eat. If we have proper digestion, we will help our body detoxify from all the things that are not so good for us. Less bloating, acne, stomach aches, headaches, and fatigue.

What are probiotics?

“Probiotics are microorganisms that offer some form of health benefit to the host – they can be found in various different foods. Probiotics are believed to play very important roles in regulating proper intestinal function and digestion – by balancing intestinal microflora.”

[medicalnewstoday]

Probiotics Health Benefits

“Commonly claimed benefits of probiotics include the decrease of potentially pathogenic gastrointestinal microorganisms, the reduction of gastrointestinal discomfort, the strengthening of the immune system, the improvement of the skin’s function, the improvement of bowel regularity, the strengthening of the resistance to cedar pollen allergens, the decrease in body pathogens, the reduction of flatulence and bloating, the protection of DNA, the protection of proteins and lipids from oxidative damage, and the maintaining of individual intestinal microbiota in subjects receiving antibiotic treatment. ” [Wikipedia]

Our health and happiness lie in our digestive system and if we help it function better, we will be in good hands. Usually for when I am eating differently than usual, for me it is everything that has sugar or gluten, I take 3 probiotics a day. This is how I deal with the holidays and my body does not get affected.

There are lots of brands on the market, I personally use Jarro-Dophilus. I have tried stronger probiotics, that have more bacterias, but it did not do good for me, in fact it was the opposite. After a year of using it regularly and helping people cure acne, ulcers and all sort of bacterias and infections, I declare it to be a very good choice. Plus, it is affordable.

If you consider yourself to be healthy, I suggest you take 1 capsule a day for at least a month and see if you notice any changes: more energy, better skin, less bloating, etc. If however, you experience some health issues, a low immune system, I suggest you take up to 3 capsules a day, until you feel better and then drop to 2 capsules, 1 capsule and after months, you can go to 1 capsule every 3 days. The changes take place slower than with antibiotics, but you really get healthy. *

  • 2. Don’t let yourself get full

Instead of not eating, because you are on a diet, or you follow a healthy regime, which can easily make everyone around you feel bad, because they do not understand you and you are drooling on the inside, why not do things differently? Try some of the food, but don’t eat until you are full!

I love food and especially for Christmas when my mom cooks all the best stuff: different pork dishes and at least 3 types of cakes and cookies. What I do is taste them, because it makes me happy eating that food that was made with love, but I never eat too much until I feel full. No, what I do, is leave a bit of space for my next meal

TIP: Just because the food is on the table all day, it does not mean you need to eat it all day long! Try to stick to 3 meals a day, sugary in the morning and eat 4 h before you go to sleep in the evening.
  • 3. Stay hydrated

You want your liquids to be plain water or lemon water or some detoxing tea, peppermint is a great choice, cause it helps the liver a lot. You want to skip caffeine (in tea or in coffee) because you will eat sugar and wheat and it will be too much for your body to handle. At the same time, stick to one glass of alcohol a day, red wine is a good choice because it helps you burn fat and maintain a healthy heart.
